A number of British triathletes and Brownlee Centre regulars have received royal recognition for their sporting services.
The Brownlee Centre is the UK’s first purpose-built triathlon training centre. The facility was created in partnership with British Cycling, British Triathlon, Sport England and UK Sport and, named after two of the University’s most successful alumni, Alistair and Jonny Brownlee, it continues to host athletes of Olympic standing.
Following a golden summer in Tokyo last year, there are a few familiar faces from Brownlee among the New Year’s Honours List, awarded MBE’s for their services to triathlon:
- Lauren Steadman
- Jess Learmonth
- Jonny Brownlee
- Georgia Taylor-Brown
- Alex Yee
Lauren Steadman won gold in the AJ Bell 2021 World Triathlon Para Series in Leeds. She then continued her winning streak with another gold in the female PTS5 classification in Tokyo.
Jess Learmonth, Jonny Brownlee, Georgia Taylor-Brown and Alex Yee all took part in the first ever Olympic Mixed Relay triathlon. After an intense 84 minutes GB stormed ahead with Alex Yee leaving the US and France in the dusk on the final run finishing with 14sec between the gold and silver position.
With the amount of hard work and effort that our athletes put into training, it’s fantastic that they have received the recognition they deserve. We love having you train with us at the Brownlee Centre!
