Two weeks ago The Edge rose above strong competition to be named Educational Facility of the Year at the National Fitness Awards.

The Edge was shortlisted for Education Facility of the Year and Best Membership Campaign. It was a strong contender in both but it’s contributions to its student and staff community in addition to its breadth of service helped to scoop it’s second ever NFA award.

This win follows the success of The Edge’s marketing team at this year’s CUBO awards where they won Marketing Campaign of the Year.

The Edge’s impact in the wider community

This is an unrivalled year for The Edge, seeing it shortlisted for five awards across three bodies and winning two nationally recognised awards. The NFA submission for Education Facility of the Year was particularly complex. It required every part of the Sport and Physical Activity (SPA) service at the University of Leeds to contribute. It showed how the centre is integral to their success.

These wins and nominations clearly demonstrate that the recent investment from SPA into The Edge is reaping dividends. As a facility that reinvests membership fees back into facility improvements, community sport and physical activity programmes, it is a vindication of the direction SPA is taking.

Head of Sport and Physical Activity Service, Suzanne Glavin said;

I’m so pleased that our great teamwork has been recognised with these shortlisting’s and this fantastic win. We strive to contribute positively to all our users. From our Gryphons Go kids camps that provide a valuable safe space for children to learn, to our new Strength & Conditioning gym for talented athletes. We really are here for all.

With both CUBO and NFA awards in hand, The Edge and Sport & Physical Activity march into 2024 ready to set new highs. We’re so happy to have you with us on this journey.
