This year, the Commonwealth Games are being hosted down the road in Birmingham. This has provided a unique experience for our volunteers, alumni and athletes as the Queen’s baton returns home after travelling the globe.

There are both current athletes and Leeds alumni who are competing or are involved in the games, including;

Mark England OBE:

Mark England OBE

Mark England OBE (Economic history 1981) and Leeds Sport hall of famer hopes to lead the team to victory as the appointed Chef de Mission. He has previously led team GB as the Chef de Mission at the 2016 Rio Olympics and will again lead the team in the upcoming 2024 Olympics set to be held in Paris.

Tyler Smith:

Tyler Smith

Sports scholar and triathlete Tyler (Sports Science and Physiology 2020) competes against his Leeds teammates as he hopes to help his nation Bermuda take home the gold.

Jessica Fullagar:

jessica Fullagar

Recent graduate and triathlete Jess Fullager (International Business) will be acting as triathlon guide to Katie Crowhurst in the PTVI Para Triathlon. Sports scholar Jess took bronze in the junior women’s World Triathlon Grand Final in 2019, and won the 2022 British Triathlon Senior Super Series in Leeds.

Sam Dickinson:

Sam Dickinson

Alumni Sam Dickinson (Sports Science and Physiology) will be competing in both the individual and relay events. He arrives at the games having achieved a gold and silver medal in the mixed relay at this year’s World Triathlon Championship Series in Hamburg and Montreal respectively.
