Last Thursday evening our staff and students attended the prestigious annual Leeds Sport Awards at Elland Road. The awards celebrate the achievements of athletes, coaches, administrators and volunteers contributing to sport in Leeds during 2024.

Outstanding contributions from Leeds Sport

It was a celebratory evening for the University of Leeds. UoL athletics scholar Max Burgin won the Student Sportsperson of the Year award. In addition, our Head of Swimming Jacob Greenhalgh was highly commended for Performance Coach of the Year. This was followed by the LUU Netball Club being highly commended for Student Sport Club of the Year. We are so proud of all our staff and students and the great things they have achieved this year.

Supporting the wider community

The University of Leeds proudly sponsored this year’s Inspirational Community Champion award, lending our support to celebrating sport in the wider community.

Suzanne Glavin, Head of Sport said;

“We are delighted to continue our support for this recognition award. We are always truly grateful and inspired by all the nominees and winners in this category. We value sport and physical activity and how it empowers and adds so much to the community and the people involved. Well done to all the highly commended and the winner Rob Wilson.”

Leeds Sport Awards

It was fantastic to have so many staff in attendance at the awards led by Rob Wadsworth (Director of Campus Innovation, Chair Sport Leeds). There was also Sue Green (Head of Residences), Kevin Stephenson (Senior Finance Manager), Sam Glenister-Batey (Head of Conferencing and Events), Lydia Shale (incoming LUU exec).

It was an incredible evening celebrating the city of Leeds sporting achievements. We extend our congratulations to all winners and nominees.
