There are lots of ways to track your activity using a phone or a GPS device. We’ve taken a look at all the options available and summarised them below to help you choose.

Free Tracking Apps for your Phone
You can download all of the apps below on your smartphone from the App Store or Google Play.
RunKeeper:
free mobile app that uses your phone’s GPS and enables runners, cyclists, hikers, etc. to track their outdoor fitness activities.
Nike+ Running:
free mobile app to track running, walking or cycling. You can also connect it to the Nike+ watch if you have one, but it works just as well on its own.
Strava:
similar to RunKeeper and Nike+, it is a free mobile app that uses your phone to track your runs and bike rides. You can also link it to sports watches if you have one.
MapMyFitness: free app you can use to track most activities. Map your route with over 70 million to choose from, or you can create your own.You can also keep track of what you eat alongside your workouts.
Endomondo:
a free mobile app that lets you track activities from running, cycling, kitesurfing, badminton and even golf! Check out their video.
Moves: free app on your phone that tracks walking, cycling and running. You can also add activities, such as gym session and when you used public transport. It is always on and runs (no pun intended) in the background, and even has a battery saving mode.
Technogym: all machines in the edge are supplied by Technogym, which means that if you create a MyWellness account, easily done online, you can log all the exercise you do on any cardio equipment at the Edge.
GPS Tracking Devices
Fitbit: they have 8 different products that include simple pedometers, to watches and weighing scales! Prices are variable, but all the products allow you to track your steps, runs, calories and even how well you are sleeping. Prices are between £50 – £200.
Jawbone UP: 3 different wristbands that track your activity, sleep pattern and allow can log your diet. The more expensive (£130) wristband also allows you to monitor your heart rate.
Misfit: probably a more ’fashionable’ fitness trackers on the market, they monitor sleep, daily activity, running and some swimming. They are waterproof and look like an everyday watch, prices are between £30 – £100.
Garmin: they have a range of products to choose from with a range of prices, watches ranging from £90 to £500 for the super professional ones. They have watches that are specific to running and ones appropriate for cycling, swimming and hiking.
TomTom: more famously known for GPS systems in your car, TomTom now also do watches to track your runs and cycle rides. Their top of the range watch (£150), also has a feature which allows you to listen to music.
