Join a club & represent the University

The University of Leeds is a main partner in one of three dedicated triathlon performance centres in the UK. Supported by Coaches, Malcolm Brown, Jack Maitland and Liam O’Neill, the Leeds Triathlon Centre is an initiative between the University of Leeds, Leeds Beckett University and British Triathlon, which provides a structured training and competition programme for athletes of all levels.

The University of Leeds Triathlon Club

  • The Club

Our triathlon club is divided into four squads:

Performance Squad: 15 places available for athletes who are on the national funding programme or meet the selection criteria. These athletes will be preparing for U23/Senior European Championships, World Championships and Major International Competitions.

Development Squad: 20 places available for up and coming junior and U23 athletes to develop their talent to progress to the senior level. These athletes will be preparing for European Cups, French GP’s and looking to win individual medals at the BUCS races.

BUCS Squad: 20 place available for athletes aspiring to compete in British Triathlon Super Series races and aiming to win BUCS individual and team medals/points.

Fast Track Squad: 12 places available for athletes that require particular attention on 1-2 disciplines to progress.

All athletes have the opportunity to develop and work their way up the squads throughout their time at university. Athletes compete in a number of the BUCS events throughout the year, as well as discipline-specific events including the BUCS Hill Climb and Cross Country.

  • Coaching Scholarships

The University of Leeds awards a number of scholarships to aspiring coaches to help improve the quality and quantity of coaching available to students in clubs. Working in conjunction with the Leeds Sport team and club committees it is an excellent opportunity for students to develop their skills and grow as a coach whilst at University.

The Coaching Scholarship is an exciting opportunity for current undergraduate or postgraduate students to rise to the challenge of coaching their fellow students alongside working with senior coaches and mentors to become a more effective coach as well as articulate the transferable skills coaching gives you in real-world situations. Ideally, candidates will have an NGB Level 1 or 2 or equivalent experience in their chosen sport and be looking to build on this whilst at University.
