We have lots of opportunities for you to get involved in Rowing at the University of Leeds, from playing to spectating.  Find out more below.

Join a club & represent the University

No matter what your experience level, the boat club caters for all abilities; from beginners who are just taking up rowing, to seasoned rowers wanting to continue rowing competitively at the highest standard available to Universities. We don’t cut anyone from our squads, just offer opportunities to row at different levels.

There are performance squads for those that wish to compete at BUCS championships, the Tideway head races or Henley, as well as intermediate squads that paddle for pleasure and compete at local British Rowing events. If rowing isn’t for you, we also have land members who train and develop fitness with us and coxswains who steer and control our crews at training and races.

We row at Thwaite Lane in South Leeds, a new £1 million boathouse opened in September 2014 in collaboration with Leeds Rowing Club, British Rowing, Sport England and WREN. The new facility allows us to offer an even better rowing experience to our members, and we look forward to future successes as a result.

  • Coaching Scholarships

The University of Leeds awards a number of scholarships to aspiring coaches to help improve the quality and quantity of coaching available to students in clubs. Working in conjunction with the Leeds Sport team and club committees it is an excellent opportunity for students to develop their skills and grow as a coach whilst at University.

The Coaching Scholarship is an exciting opportunity for current undergraduate or postgraduate students to rise to the challenge of coaching their fellow students alongside working with senior coaches and mentors to become a more effective coach as well as articulate the transferable skills coaching gives you in real-world situations. Ideally, candidates will have an NGB Level 1 or 2 or equivalent experience in their chosen sport and be looking to build on this whilst at University.
