Module Summary
As is often recognised, the sport, exercise, and physical activity fields are no strangers to false information, unsubstantiated claims, and bad scientific practices. In this module you will engage with the contemporary issues in these fields through evidence-based debate. As a result, through weekly explorations, an understanding of how to develop academic justification, and the processes for defending academic arguments, will be developed. These skills will also be considered in the wider context of academic study and research.
This Module Will Cover:
Each week you will be given a unique and challenging statement for which you will undertake exploratory research before presenting an evidence-based conclusion for group debate.
Indicative topic areas to be covered include:
1. What is sport, exercise, and physical activity?
2. Sport, health, and wellbeing
3. Sport and sustainability
4. Sport and technology.
Assessment:
The module is assessed in two parts:
1. 10 minute group podcast
2. 1500 word critical essay
Module Delivery
These modules use a hybrid approach. Online materials are used to support face-to-face and in-person teaching.
