Currently, three clubs have trained with a PT on a regular basis: Men’s Basketball, Powerlifting and American Football. Since taking up sessions with the PT team these three clubs have all achieved unprecedented success in their respective competitions.
Members from these clubs have all attributed the programme to be one of the components that resulted in their successes and significant improvements this past season.
“After a disappointing few years in which the club won only 4 games, the Gryphons got off to the strongest start possible. We had an undefeated regular season, sweeping the BUCS Northern 2A conference scoring an average of over 30 points a game. Winning the division secured promotion to Division 1 for 2017/18. The team then had a strong playoff run losing to Coventry in the final. Overall the Gryphons won 8 games and lost just 1 game, a massive improvement from their 1-7 record in 2015/16.”
“We had a team of 7 compete at the YNEPF Northern University competition in May. We won the best overall team, best women’s team, best men’s team and our 2017/18 captain won best male lifter as well as claiming 2 regional records. We’re now looking forward to national juniors in November, where we have about 6 members who’ve qualified to lift. There is a possibility that 1 or 2 of these lifters will qualify for the world junior championships in 2018. We’ll also be planning to send a team to the British uni competition in 2018 and hopefully qualify for world uni”.
“We had a groundbreaking season which saw 2 out of 3 three teams get promoted to a higher division. The 1st team were promoted to Division 1 and 2nd team were promoted to Division 3. Our 3rd team also had a stellar season but narrowly lost out on promotion due to point difference. Generally, it was a very successful season”
