Leeds is host to the Leeds Triathlon Centre, an elite training centre for top triathletes in the UK, funded by The University of Leeds, British Triathlon and Leeds Beckett University.
The Leeds Triathlon Centre supports over 80 athletes in their aspirations to become the best in the world, 14 of which are part of an elite training squad.
The University of Leeds is a key partner in the Leeds Triathlon Centre and the elite training squad are based at the University’s £5m Brownlee Centre and cycle circuit at Bodington Playing Fields. Amongst this elite squad is Olympic heroes Alistair and Jonny Brownlee, Gordon Benson and Tom Bishop all of which are alumni of the University of Leeds. World Triathlon Series race winner Non Stanford is also part of the squad.
All the athletes also use the excellent facilities across the city such at The Edge pool and Strength and Conditioning room.
