Our Facilities

Our gym and swimming pool will be reopening on the 12th of April. From this time you will be able to visit the gym, pool or climbing wall. This will however be at reduced capacity and we will be allocating timed slots that you can book in order to help maintain social distancing.

All of our facilities will reopen in accordance with guidelines from the relevant authorities to provide a safe and planned COVID-secure environment, with staff trained to give the best possible experience.

We continue to incorporate advice and guidance from the relevant authorities in our planning including the NHS and Public Health England, industry associations, such as UKActive, and national governing bodies, such as UK Sport.

We are happy to welcome back all our student clubs for training, plus all our members back for racquet sports, including squash and badminton as of 17 May. Here is what you need to know before coming back to play with us:

  • Both squash and badminton courts will be available to book once again.
  • As this is classed as unorganised sport it will be subject to restrictions, meaning that members must adhere to indoor government rules of six people or two households.
  • Please bring your own equipment, we are currently unable to offer any equipment for hire.
  • Unfortunately, other sports such as basketball and indoor football will remain unavailable until further notice.

Outdoor facilities such as Sports Park Weetwood and The Bodington Centre will be opening on 29th  March.

Gryphon Sports Centre – Will not reopen in the 2020/21 academic year, we will provide more updates about this facility in the future.

Cromer Terrace – We will confirm closer to reopening the availability of Cromer Terrace for classes and activity bookings, any sessions available will be advertised on our booking system.

Selside Outdoor Centre – Whilst we are unable to confirm a date for reopening, we are working hard to safely reopen these facilities as soon as possible.

From reopening on the 12th April, we will revert to our standard opening hours which will be 06:30-22:30 Mondays – Fridays and 07:30 – 21:00 Saturday & Sunday.

You can book your gym or swim session the same way you would book an exercise class by visiting our booking page.

Instructions on how to make your booking are available here.

As of 17 May, Swimming sessions and gym sessions will be for 60 minutes. This is to allow adequate time to keep all of our facilities clean and safe for use and to ensure availability for as many of our members as possible.

We ask that you please do not stay any longer than your allocated time.

A parking code can be obtained at The Edge reception desk which allows you to park for a maximum of 3 hours between the hours of 4pm – 9am on weekdays and at any time on weekends.
Alternatively, you can register for Edge parking which allows you to park for more than 3 hours between these times. If you would like to register for Edge parking please contact

We will be allocating timed slots to use our facilities in order to allow for thorough cleaning of all equipment and facilities between use.

All of our staff will be equipped with visors and we will ask all of our members to wear face-coverings.

We will also make hand sanitiser readily available throughout the building.

We are following the University guidance on face coverings, which must be worn in all indoor communal areas on campus, for example, main public corridors and communal toilets. Wearing a face covering is just one of the range of measures – including social distancing and frequent hand washing – that we should all take to help keep everyone safe. You may notice our colleagues not wearing face masks, this is because we are following the University guidance with regards to wearing face coverings whilst working on campus.

You do not need to wear gloves when visiting our facilities, we simply ask you to use the hand sanitising stations provided and to regularly wash your hands.

All changing rooms and showers will be available to use from the 17 May onward. However, we encourage members to arrive “Gym Ready” and to only use these facilities if necessary. The capacity in these areas shall be limited, with some sections closed off.
