The University of Leeds has a number of sports facilities located in and around Leeds and the Yorkshire area. The Edge, the University’s flagship fitness centre is situated on the University’s main campus just 10 minutes walk from Leeds City Centre, and perfectly positioned for easy access by staff, students and the general public.

Other facilities include Sports Park Weetwood, home to the Gryphon’s, a recently developed Boat House and our brand new triathlon centre and cycle circuit at Bodington Playing Fields.

The Edge

Access to The Edge is currently by booking only. Please visit our online booking system if you have a membership or call reception on 0113 343 5095 for pay-as-you-go.

By Car: The Edge is located on the University of Leeds’ main campus. You can access The Edge by car via the main campus entrance located next to the Parkinson Building on Woodhouse Lane. Once through the barriers please follow the signs to the sports centre.

Car Parking: Car parking at The Edge is free on weekdays from 4pm – 9am and all weekend. Users are entitled to 3 hours free parking between these hours using a code which can be found at reception. Members can register their cars with edgemembership@leeds.ac.uk to receive unlimited free parking between these hours. Please note parking costs are not included in the sports centre booking.

By Bus: We are easy to access via a number of bus routes in the city. The Leeds City Bus stops on Clarendon Way, just 200 yards from The Edge opposite the LGI. Alternatively a number of buses run to Woodhouse Lane which is a short walk through campus. Visit WY Metro for details and to plan your journey by bus.

By Bike: With ample secure bike spaces located just outside The Edge cycling is a great option for our customers.

Gryphon Sports Centre is located on Woodsley Road near the University Business School.

From the Parkinson Building: turn left off of Woodhouse Lane onto Clarendon Road. From Clarendon Road take the second right onto Woodsley Road. The Gryphon Sports Centre is on the right hand side.

Parking is limited. Customers can park on Woodsley Road free for 2 hours, with no return after this.

M1 (Northbound)

From the M1 leave at Junction 43 and take the M621 towards Leeds City Centre. Leave at Junction 3 following signs for City Centre. Then follow signs for “all Loop traffic”. Keep on Loop until you see signs for A660 Skipton and University of Leeds. Continue past University of Leeds for 3 miles. Turn right at the large roundabout onto the A6120. You will see the Weetwood Playing Fields on your right hand side, but you will need to continue down the ring road to the traffic lights where it is possible to double back on yourself so that the playing fields are on your left.

M1 (Southbound)

At junction 44, take the A64 exit to York/​Leeds (North). At the roundabout, take the 5th exit onto A64 for 5.4 miles. At the roundabout, take the 3rd exit onto Ring Road Seacroft /​ A6120
Continue to follow A6120. Go through 3 roundabouts. Turn right onto Weetwood Lane. Turn left onto Adel Lane.

From M62 Westbound take M1 at Junction 29 and follow directions above. From M62 Eastbound take Junction 27 onto M621 and leave at Junction 3 following directions above. From A1 leave at sign to Leeds A63,A58 or A61. When you reach the ring road A6120 follow the signs to Bradford. Weetwood Playing Fields are on your left opposite Weetwood Police Station immediately prior to the roundabout at A660 Otley Road.

Car parking information

Please park at Weetwood Playing Fields car park off the ring road.

If you park in Weetwood Hall you will incur a fine.

M1

From the M1 leave at Junction 43 and take the M621 towards Leeds City Centre. Leave at Junction 3 following signs for City Centre. Then follow signs for “all Loop traffic”. You will see Lawnswood Playing Fields and the YMCA on your left hand side, then take the first right turn down Bodington Avenue continuing to the bottom of the road where you will reach the car park and The Brownlee Centre.

From M62 Westbound take M1 at Junction 29 and follow directions above. From M62 Eastbound take Junction 27 onto M621 and leave at Junction 3 following directions above. From A1 leave at sign to Leeds A63,A58 or A61. When you reach the ring road A6120 follow the signs to Bradford. At the roundabout on the A660 Otley road turn right towards Otley and Adel. You will see Lawnswood Playing Fields and the YMCA on your left hand side, then take the first right turn down Bodington Avenue continuing to the bottom of the road where you will reach the car park and The Brownlee Centre.

Cromer Terrace Studios

Located in the heart of the University of Leeds campus, Cromer Terrace Studios is located on the street next to the Student’s Union. When leaving the Student’s Union turn left and then turn left again down Cromer Terrace.
