The University of Leeds Men’s Cricket Club

The Club
The club has three teams that compete competitively in the BUCS championships. The first team plays in plays in BUCS Premier North Division and has various internationals, ex-pros and national championship winning players. The club will quickly become the cornerstone of your time at Leeds. Even during winter they train weekly at an indoor facility and keep themselves in shape in the University Social Sport football league to make sure that they are ready when the short BUCS season starts at the end of the year. They are open to players of all abilities and run development training sessions for beginners and improvers.

The University of Leeds Women’s Cricket Club

The Club
Women’s cricket welcome all abilities, whether you know what silly point means or not. Their training sessions are constructive and fun (with the help of an award winning coach) and they also provide weekly socials to ensure that all new and old cricketers feel part of a great university sports team. Training takes place indoors throughout the winter before moving outdoors after Easter and more experienced players have the chance to join the MCCU teams.

Leeds/Bradford MCCU Cricket Centre of Excellence

About
The University of Leeds is one of 6 national Cricket Centre of Excellence which is supported by the MCC through their MCCU programme.
Established in 2001, MCCUs are cricket academies which allow young aspiring cricketers to receive an unrivalled level of training and match-play whilst still furthering their education. They provide a pathway into 1st class county cricket and ultimately England with around a fifth of all English qualified players having been part of an MCCU centre of excellence.

What is Give it a Go?
Leeds University Union runs one of the largest Give it a Go programmes in the country with over 300 events per semester, including Aikido.
Give it a Go not only allows you the opportunity to try out different clubs and societies with no obligation to join, but you can attend arts & craft workshops, film screenings, workshops and explore attractions both local in Leeds and across the UK.

Coaching Scholarships
The University of Leeds awards a number of scholarships to aspiring coaches to help improve the quality and quantity of coaching available to students in clubs. Working in conjunction with the Leeds Sport team and club committees it is an excellent opportunity for students to develop their skills and grow as a coach whilst at University.

The Coaching Scholarship is an exciting opportunity for current undergraduate or postgraduate students to rise to the challenge of coaching their fellow students alongside working with senior coaches and mentors to become a more effective coach as well as articulate the transferable skills coaching gives you in real-world situations. Ideally, candidates will have an NGB Level 1 or 2 or equivalent experience in their chosen sport and be looking to build on this whilst at University.
