Athletics

Based at John Charles Sports Centre, the University of Leeds Athletics Club is an ever growing and successful club, welcoming members of all abilities. Whether you are interested in keeping fit or you are a regional or national level athlete there is a place for you in the club.

The club offers a diverse range of training for all disciplines of track and field and has both men’s and women’s teams who compete in two major British Universities and College Sport (BUCS) competitions each year, as well as in a number of open events throughout the country.

Get Out, Get Active is a fantastic programme of activity across 8 outdoor activities available to students throughout the year and includes coached taster sessions, trips away, social get-togethers. The Get Out Get Active Running sessions feature weekly easy going, steady and challenging sessions. There are also volunteering opportunities to be a run leader and lead weekly runs.

The University of Leeds awards a number of scholarships to aspiring coaches to help improve the quality and quantity of coaching available to students in clubs. Working in conjunction with the Leeds Sport team and club committees it is an excellent opportunity for students to develop their skills and grow as a coach whilst at University.

The Coaching Scholarship is an exciting opportunity for current undergraduate or postgraduate students to rise to the challenge of coaching their fellow students alongside working with senior coaches and mentors to become a more effective coach as well as articulate the transferable skills coaching gives you in real-world situations. Ideally, candidates will have an NGB Level 1 or 2 or equivalent experience in their chosen sport and be looking to build on this whilst at University.

Applications for coaching scholarships for the forthcoming academic year are accepted from February to April.
