Club Coach
Overview of the role
The Club Coach role is a hands-on coaching role. Club Coaches are responsible for supporting student to student coaching sessions within LUU clubs during term-time. This could involve supporting a qualified coach or staff member or even leading your own recreational level sessions. This role is open to and ideal for students looking to gain some coaching experience and support their club throughout the year. As a club coach, there are no pre-requisites to join the programme other than enthusiasm and a desire to support your club!
In this role, you will be supported by the Leeds Gryphons and LUU team in the form of drop-in sessions and the opportunity to request support from the team. It is a fun role where you can learn valuable skills from coaching, and you will be helping your fellow students to enjoy sport whilst at university!
Duties & responsibilities
- Deliver an agreed amount of coaching within an LUU club
- Support a qualified coach or staff member in delivering coaching, or lead the delivery of a recreational level session
- Contribute to the development and sustainability of your chosen sport at the university
- Represent the University & Leeds Gryphons in a positive manner
- Maintain open lines of communication with the Leeds Gryphons team and LUU

Training & support
We want you to have the very best volunteering experience with us; therefore, we take care to ensure you get the training and support you need to carry out your role including:
- An initial induction to the organisation and the role
- Drop-in sessions and workshops during term time, where you can access support
- Opportunity to request further support from the Leeds Gryphons and LUU team
Any further training and support needs will be discussed with the Sports Workforce Officer, who will be your main point of contact.

Commitment
You will agree within your club the amount of coaching you will deliver. If you are coaching in a leading capacity, please accommodate for planning and organisation time. If you require any support or have any issues regarding the commitment agreed within your club, please contact the Sports Workforce Officer.
You will be required to attend any training relevant to your role in line with the Leeds Gryphons minimum deployment guidelines for volunteers.

- Applications for 2026-27 academic year are now OPEN. Club Coach applications will remain open throughout the year for those wanting to coach within LUU clubs.
- Club Coaches are responsible to the Sports Workforce Officer in the Leeds Gryphons Team and their related LUU club.
- Clubs will have no limit on club coaches; however, Leeds Gryphons advise keeping your coaches proportionate to your club members/teams i.e. maximum 2 student volunteer coaches per team.
