Leeds triathletes have exciting year ahead

With both The World Triathlon Championship Series Leeds and Birmingham Commonwealth Games taking place, 2022 is a big year for Triathlon! Alex Yee, Georgia Taylor-Brown, Jonny Brownlee and Sophie Coldwell have been announced as Team England athletes in the Commonwealth Games. Beth Potter, representing Team Scotland, had already been chosen for the games before the New Year.

Gold rush Leeds

Alex Yee studied and trained in Leeds before his Olympic success in 2021. He received a gold in the Mixed Relay at Tokyo along with Jess Learmonth, Brownlee and Taylor-Brown, all of whom received a mention in the New Year’s honours list. Brownlee, Taylor-Brown and Potter all currently train in Leeds, with the city playing a key role in their success as world-class triathletes. What an achievement for our Leeds triathletes who have devoted hours of hard work training at our facilities!

The World Triathlon Championship Series Leeds – has provided the athletes with a full trophy cabinet in the past. Georgia Taylor-Brown took gold in 2019 and silver in 2018. Jonny Brownlee has taken two medals, silver in 2016 and 2017. Beth Potter secured her first top ten position in 2021 which contributed to a successful year for the Scot.

The Commonwealth Games

Team England will be hoping to repeat the results from the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth games which saw them come away with a gold. This was the first appearance of the mixed triathlon relay event which has now reached peak popularity due to the gold medal earned in last summer’s Olympic Games. We wish all of the athletes the best of luck with the upcoming year’s events and training!
