On Friday evening, our staff and students attended the prestigious annual Leeds Sport Awards held at New Dock Hall. The awards celebrate the sporting achievements of athletes, of all ages and levels, coaches, administrators and volunteers across the city of Leeds.
It was a fantastic evening for the University of Leeds, with our Women’s Rugby Union team scooping the award for Student Sport Champion of the Year. The University of Leeds was well represented in this category with two of the four finalists. Leeds University Fencing Club narrowly missed out on this award but were highly commended.
Additionally, swimmer Zara Mullooly and Triathletes Jess Fullager was highly commended for “Disability Sportswoman of the Year”. Basketball player Finn Tonner was also highly commended for “Disability Sportsman of the Year” and Leeds Bradford MCCU were highly commended for the “Performance Team/Club of the Year” award. Moreover, Robyn “Bo” Steward was highly commended for “Participation Coach of the Year” and Georgia Taylor-Brown was highly commended for “Sportswoman of the Year”. We are so proud of all our staff and student athletes and their continued contribution to sport in the city.
This year, the University of Leeds was proud to sponsor the Inspirational Community Champion award and to lend our support to celebrating sport in the wider community.
