Professional Development Manager, Andy Lockwood has today embarked on a 10 day trip to one of the most deprived areas of South Africa. Andy joins staff and students from St Mary’s Menston School as part of the Bambisanani Partnership.
Andy is joining the trip to represent the University and to look into the possibility of running our own similar programme for students to be involved in next year. This will be a development of the Leadership Programmes which have been developed this year.
While on his trip Andy will be keeping you up to date with everything he is doing via his blog: www.AndyinAfrica.co.uk
Football Shirt Amnesty
Over the past month we have been collecting unwanted football shirts for the students out in Mnyakanya as they have very little sporting equipment or kit. The response to the amnesty has been amazing and thanks to the generosity of staff, students and local football clubs almost 500 football shirts have been collected!
When Andy delivered the kit to St Mary’s School they were overwhelmed with the generosity of everyone so a big THANK YOU!
A special thank you also to the following people for their considerable donations;
- Richard from Horsforth St Margaret’s
- Ian from Brighouse Juniors
- Ian from Life Leisure in Stockport
- Ben from Doncaster Rovers
- Trish from the University of Leeds
- Gemma from the University of Leeds
Andy will be taking lots of photos while in South Africa, especially of the students wearing their new shirts.
Make sure you check out his blog (www.AndyinAfrica.co.uk) to find out all about the trip!
