I trained for my first marathon at The Edge…

What is your favourite facility here at The Edge?

I love the newly refurbished gym, it’s perfect for getting a varied workout in and being able to watch TV while running makes it much more interesting!!

What do you think is the best thing about The Edge?

I think the best thing about The Edge is the range of facilities and the location. It’s right in the city centre and working on campus means it’s really convenient for fitting in workouts before, during or after work!

What advice would you give to new members just starting out with us?

I would say make sure you challenge yourself and try something new as there are so many opportunities at The Edge. Plus all the staff are great, really friendly and supportive so you feel totally at ease trying something you’ve never done before!

We learned to climb at The Edge…

What advice would you give to new members just starting out with us?

Holly: “Make the most of the facilities, there is a lot to choose from”

Franziska: “Take part in climbing courses, you learn a lot and you meet people who are as enthusiastic about climbing as you are”

Louise: “Try everything that looks interesting to you, that way you’ll find sparks you love and getting fit is an added bonus”

What do you think is the best thing about The Edge?

Holly: “I think the climbing wall is the best, it’s different from just coming to the gym to use the running machines and it’s nice to mix things up”

Louise: “Being able to leave the office when I need a break and be on the wall within 5 minutes. It’s a good place to meet with friends at uni and do something sociable and healthy at the same time – a good alternative to the pub”

We learned how to strength train at The Edge…

What would you say is your greatest achievement whilst being a member here at The Edge?

Merel: “I did the strength course and now I can go to the gym whenever I want to”

Fran: “Being able to know how to use the equipment in the strength training room. It’s given me the confidence to be able to get myself fitter and stronger for sport specific stuff – a special thanks to instructor Gary!”

Jen: “I’ve lost quite a bit of weight since I joined and it’s nice to see real results in terms of my physique”

What motivates you to make the most of your membership that may help motivate our other members?

Jen: “There’s such a selection of facilities that you can do a different workout/activity every day. Courses like the strength training one are great for getting familiar with new equipment or training”

What advice would you give to new members just starting out with us?

Fran: “Make the most of the facilities here and don’t be afraid to ask any of the instructors. They are always happy to help it seems!”

We learned to swim at The Edge…

What would you say is your greatest achievement whilst being a member here at The Edge?

Alina: “I did learn how to swim after years and years of trying to overcome my fear of water”

Sriram: “I never thought I would be able to overcome my shyness and lack of confidence in swimming after bad childhood swimming experiences. The Edge and teacher Jake have given me a fresh start and gained confidence”

What motivates you to make the most of your membership that may help motivate our other members?

Petra: “Swimming lessons have provided a huge boost to my motivation as I am now always in the pool practicing my strokes and noticing improvement”

What advice would you give to new members just starting out with us?

Cait: “Try out every class and facility at least once. Everyone is encouraging and enthusiastic – its not just for students – oldies like me can join in”

Alina: “Never give up, keep going, even if you use baby steps to achieve your goals, just keep going and never ever give up”

Emma and Jonny

What do you think is the best thing about The Edge?

Jonny: “The quality of the facilities and equipment available. The swimming pool is really useful for swimming and aqua-jogging for run recovery after injury”

What was the main reason behind you becoming a member?

Emma: “To keep fit and get stronger. Get into a routine and stick to it. Try and do workouts with friends as it’s much more enjoyable”

What advice would you give to new members just starting out with us?

Jonny: “Have fun, find a group to train with; it is far easier to train with other like-minded people. Also set targets – make them difficult but achievable”

Based on the main University campus in the city centre we’re in the ideal place!

Car parking at The Edge is FREE weekdays from 4pm and all weekend*.

*Access is restricted on weekdays between 7.45am and 4pm.
