Alumni Sport at Leeds

Our Sports Alumni tell us that some of their most fulfilling and enjoyable moments at the University came through their involvement in sport.

We wish to create strong links with our former students and keep you informed with the progress we are making in improving sport at Leeds.

Many thousands of our students participate each year in our university recreational and competitive sporting programmes and we are proud of the impact these students make both on university life and after graduation on the wider world of sport. Our Sports Alumni tell us that some of their most fulfilling and enjoyable moments at the University came through their involvement in sport and that they would like to be kept in touch with the progress we are making in improving sport and competing on a national stage.

The 2010/11 season was another excellent year for our sports teams. This success is reflected in our final position in the British University rankings where we finished 16th out of 145 universities.

To help us build on the achievements of our students we are developing a structured alumni programme for sport. This programme is designed to re-engage with our thousands of sports alumni and in time help us improve the coaching support of our University teams, our gradually improving facilities and our ever developing dynamic sporting community.

In this section we will:

• Publicise and support the University’s alumni sports events. We already have a large number of Old Boys and Girls events at the University and we intend to more actively support and publicise these to engage as many alumni as possible.

• Offer Alumni opportunities to come and support the University at key sporting events such as the University Varsity matches against Leeds Metropolitan University, Christie Cup, important fixtures involving some of our very best teams.

• Celebrate the successes of our students and alumni with the development of a Hall of Fame for sport.
