Water Polo

The University of Leeds Water Polo team consists of top athletes who play to the highest standards and became the BUCS Water Polo Champions in 2012. The team take part in the BUCS and UPolo Leagues as well as numerous local and friendly matches. The University Water Polo team has supported aspiring Olympic athlete, Ed Scott over the past few years who has currently taken a year out of his studies to play full-time at Club Mediterrani in Spain before London 2012.

Club:
The University Water Polo team compete in the BUCS League and take part in the UPolo tournament which takes place from October to March. UPolo supports British University Water Polo by providing university teams increased opportunity to play at a competitive level. The league is divided on a regional basis, allowing for accessible matches and a full timetable of fixtures throughout the year. Both the men and women’s University of Leeds teams compete in the North East League Division 1. On top of these leagues the squad also take part in numerous competitions and tournaments throughout the year including the UFEST, a multi-sport University tournament, they also take part in regular friendly matches with local teams.

Coach:
Joe Carr joined the University of Leeds as Head Water Polo Coach in September 2010. Joe is a Durham University graduate, where he played for three years. During his time at University, Joe featured regularly in the City of Leeds Water Polo Team during their National League fixtures. He also spent a year in Australia coaching UNSW U16s.

During his first year at the University Joe supported the Water Polo squad to reach great successes and hopes for the squad to achieve further accolades over the next year. His experience as a player and coaching style continues to give the club guidance in training, promoting an increase in skill and fitness in the pool whilst keeping an overall eye on tactics and the teams shape.

Facilities:
The University boasts a fantastic 8 lane, 25m pool, equipped with state of the art electronic timing, moveable floor and the facility for underwater filming. The Edge Sports Centre was opened in May 2010 and the pool was designed specifically for the Swim and Water Polo Team and Leeds University students.

Local Performance Clubs:
The University Water Polo Club maintains close connections with the City of Leeds Water Polo squad who also use The Edge facilities for weekly training.

Wednesday: BUCS League Matches
Thursday: Fitness Lane Session, 19:45-20:45
Friday: Strength and Conditioning, 16.00 – 17.00
Sunday: Mixed Water Polo, 16:00-17:30
