Course Overview

Being a lifeguard offers a fantastic foundation to a career in the leisure industry. The National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ) is now universally recognised as the industry standard.

The programme is continually refined and developed so it meets the needs of the leisure industry, the demands of pool users and the requirements of the law. This course will prepare you to become a lifeguard working in a leisure environment where teamwork is an everyday necessity.

The NPLQ will enable you to seek work in the leisure industry, holiday parks and private hotels with swimming pools.

The NPLQ Pathway diagram provides potential career options and opportunities available from this qualification.

What you will learn:

  • Knowledge of water safety and pool emergency practices
  • Understanding the principles of the Normal Operating Procedures and Emergency Action Plans
  • Knowledge of pool rescue equipment
  • Practical rescue skills
  • Practical and theoretical CPR skills
  • Practical and theoretical first aid knowledge and skills


Candidate Criteria

If you are over 16 years old, physically fit, able to swim 50 meters in one minute and have an interest in being a lifeguard then this is the course for you.

Candidates must attend every day of the course.
