Current Olympic Scholars
The University of Leeds is delighted to have supported a number of athletes through Olympic Scholarships and is proud of alumni who competed at London 2012.
The University of Leeds expected over 10 current students & alumni to participate at the London 2012 Olympic & Paralympic Games. Athlete profiles can be viewed by following links on the left-hand side of this page.
Our list of Olympic & Paralympic alumni was headed by double World Triathlon champion Alistair Brownlee and also features Jonathan Hammond (double 2010 Commonwealth gold-medalist in shooting), Claire Cashmore (2004 & 2008 Paralympic medallist in swimming) and diver Rebecca Galantree
Our Olympic scholars included three athletes selected for Team GB: Jonny Brownlee (2011 runner-up in ITU World Triathlon Series), Jack Oliver (Weightlifting) and Kim Daybell (Paralympic Table Tennis). These students successfully combined study with training and competing at the very highest level. Our other Olympic Scholars were in contention to represent their country at the London 2012 Olympic & Paralympic Games or have ambitions to compete at the 2016 Games in Rio.
